Ukraine….. doesn’t that just sound good?
“C’mon Luce, Ukraine, doesn’t that just sound good?” Are the words Lene used to me to persuade me in joining her in the upcoming LET Access event. This plan all came about during the practice round in Zaragoza a month before the Golf Stream Open in Kiev.
I had crossed the tournament off my list at the beginning of the season but after constant facebook messages and emails from my friends on tour I decided to sign up for the tournament and join them on this journey.
The city of Kiev, is one of the hosts for the 2012 European Cup Tournament, which will be taking place at the beginning of June.
We played Kiev Golf Club which is one of the best golf clubs I’ve played while over here thus far. It was in fantastic shape with a great practice facility. The course played very tough. For those of you watching would’ve noticed that the scores were pretty high. You had to hit good tee shots and really good second shots to ensure you were on the right side of the pin. You get on the wrong side of the pin you are asking for a difficult two –putt.
I had a bit of bad luck coming into my last three holes. I was already bleeding out bogeys from 12- 15 but as I looked around the whole golf course I saw that girls were looking for balls in the rough and hazards all day so I figured if I kept fighting I’ll be in that top 25. With a water ball on the 16th and lost ball on 18th.. I missed the cut by two. Other than stumbling in, I had a great time, and a unique experience in the Ukraine.
It has been interesting to see different cultures, trying new food and experiencing unfamiliar golf courses.
This week I’ll be playing the Slovak Open on the Ladies European Tour June 8th-10th.
